Design project-day 3

In our define phase, our game really fits the descriptions we made of a good game, minus the story line theme. Perhaps we could add a general little kid theme to it to make it more interesting. I think some things we should keep the whole idea of a lower-level skeeball depositor to ease retrieving it, and the borders of the ramp to keep the ball from falling off. We could make sturdier legs for it, though, and make the ramp smoother. We have exact dimensions for it though so that'll be helpful.

PLAN:
1. Gather materials (cardboard, good scissors, packaging tape, hot glue guns, posters, markers, pringle cans, ball)
2. Decorate all of the cardboard
3. Make 4 sturdy legs out of pringle cans
4. Decorate the pringles cans.
5.Build a skeeball machine out of 2 pieces of cardboard and strips to divide it and make the ball slot
6. Connect the legs to the bottom of the machine with hot glue and tape

RESEARCH PHASE

What was fun about it-  The fact that it had interchangeable "maps" is really convenient and it adds variety to the game. I also think that the pitfalls added difficulty onto the game instead of it being one plain maze.
What could be improved- They could use something a little bit easier to control instead of a marble, (because you move it like 0.000000000000000000000000000000000001 millimeter over it swerves out of control) such as a ping pong ball or styrofoam ball. Other than that, the game seems pretty sound, although a prize dispenser would be a nice addition.

What was fun about it: the fact that he added blockers made it a bit more difficult albeit the game seeming pretty easy still. Anybody would be able to play it, as it requires less skill than most games (that's a good thing)
What could be improved: He could offer some prizes or tickets for winning, and make it somehow less easy to cheat on, as you could basically just place the ball in the hole and win, instead of throwing it. He could also use a real ball instead of a cotton ball so that it has more weight and has a better chance of entering if it even passed by it.

What was fun about it: He got to use a leaf blower to make it work, which stimulates pretty close to what an actual arcade ticket grab would go. He also added an emergency exit which was helpful, but asides from that it's very close to an actual ticket grab.
What could be improved: This game is also really easy to cheat on, he could make it so that the tickets couldn't be picked off of the ground, maybe he could make a floor barrier like a cage or something similar which catches the tickets and lets them be blown up, but also so that nobody could grab through the grate/fence and pick them up.

IDEATION PHASE
Brainstorm ideas: We thought about making skeeball, or maybe air hockey.

SKEEBALL

  • To make it fun we will make it colorful, and make it simple to understand and easy to play. We will add some competition by making each hole have a certain score (I.E 3 points for the most difficult one to land, and 1 point for the easiest one.) We're going to keep the scores small numbers so that the kids can add up their own scores.
  • Things that could go wrong are that the ramp is difficult to shoot the ball at, like uneven or rigid, and that it could fall apart. To avoid this we're going to use good sturdy materials, and reinforce the whole machine.
