Growing up Online

15 things that didn't surprise me:
1. That parents and teachers don't know about what goes online mostly.
2. That a dad could get his son's attention easier by emailing him. (I usually do that with my mom)
3. That people don't read full books anymore, that they only use sparknotes to read summaries as they don't have as much time to.
4. That people stay on the computer all day until their parents tell them to get off, because I do that s sometimes too.
5. People rant and hash out their conflicts online, because online you have more courage to and you don't have to talk to their face.
6. That people have different, exaggerated personalities online.
7. That cyber-bullying has and still takes place in public.
8. That Jessica's parents didn't trust her online anymore and made her delete her profile.
9. That there are pro-ana websites and forums that promote anorexia.
10. That the internet has been the greatest generation gap since the rock 'n roll era.
11. Cyber-bullying is more common now.
12. That after Jessica had to close down her account, a day later she made it again.
13. That the internet pulls you away from your family.
14. That when you cyberbully, you can make up rumors and they can spread quickly and be more believable.
15. That you can live with any kind of mental illness and have your parents not know about it at all.

15 things that did surprise me:
1. That people bring their entire desktops to other's houses to have "parties" and play games. I couldn't imagine having to carry the tower and monitor and everything else just to play at someones house for a night.
2. That people can have relationships online with someone they know in real life, but when they see them in person they only act like friends. That just goes to show that you can be a lot more outgoing online.
3. Jessica's mother made her delete all the erotic photos of her while she watched. That's a really harsh punishment and really humiliating as well. I would have just refused,
4. The mothers are surprisingly nosy and hover more than anyone else I've ever seen.
5. That there is a computer crime unit in the police department.
6. The mother wants their kids passwords to things. Too paranoid of a mother in my opinion.
7. That some teenagers are unwilling to use their home computers just to avoid their parents invading their private life and instead use a friends computers.
8. Most kids know how to avoid predators online, and that they just want to talk to their friends.
9. Online anorexics call anorexia "ana" apparently due to respect some goddess named Ana
10. You can tell more things online to strangers, and it's easier to, than to tell your parents.
11. That there were so many drunk teens in Madison Square garden at the rock concert, that 3 hospitals had to close down due to so many intoxicated people.
12. That 2 people can talk online and plot/plan about suicide.
13. That cyber-bullying can cause suicide. In my opinion, cyber-bullying
14. Autumn Edows went back online.
15. Her father supports her modeling and online profiles.

15 things that have changed since 2008:
1.  Myspace isn't used anymore, Facebook is newer and more used.
2. Club penguin isn't used as widely anymore.
3. More people have smartphones now and not normal cellular phones.
4. The media doesn't only talk about predators and pedophiles anymore.
5. MSN still existed
6. Email chats were more commonly used.
7. Smart boards were more used as well. ( I think that they should still be used because they seem easier to.)
8. The technology in general wasn't as modern as it is today, obviously.
9. Youtube wasn't owned by Google back then.
10. Youtube was still in prgres
